When you live thousands upon thousands of miles away from most everyone you know and love, it is REALLY special when some of those same people come to you!
Last Wednesday, our team eagerly left our compound and hurried to the airstrip (mätar) to await the arrival of a very special plane. After a few false alarms (UN helicopter and a generator starting up), we finally heard the faint–but growing–hum of the small 206 in the distance.
I nearly cried when the plane touched down and our first visitors began to debark, and quickly the reunions commenced. Peter and Andrew from our Houston office and Daniel Lual from the Kampala office were our FIRST EVER VISITORS from the States!!! They came on the official business of interviewing candidates for the radio station that we are building out, but their visit was such an encouragement and a blessing to us.
It was so wonderful to catch up, to share stories from the last month, and to hear their affirmation of our ministry here. As we told of our adventures from the last five weeks, it really reminded me just how far our compound has come in terms of getting projects done and updates completed, but it also reminded me just how much better of a place I’m in now compared to five weeks ago. God has done a major work in my heart, and talking about it really made me realize it. Probably my favorite time during their visit was the prayer time Friday night. Peter prayed over each of us individually, and man, it was powerful! He prayed for some heart-level stuff, and I walked away freed and encouraged.
And they paved the way for our first mission team coming tomorrow!
Here’s our whole crew just before their departure on Saturday morning…
