Time is a funny thing when traveling internationally. I lose track of it. We landed in Amsterdam at around 5:30 am on Sunday, March 17th, but I was so disoriented and tired that I honestly had no clue what day it was! We had a five-hour layover that turned into a seven-hour layover because something was wrong with our plane. Our team managed to curl up on some chairs and take ridiculously pathetic naps before boarding our second flight and heading to Africa. We also got to have one last Starbucks chai before heading out, but at literally $10 a pop, it was a HUGE splurge!
The airport in Amsterdam is AWESOME! There is a library, a museum, a place to take showers, a little hotel, and a bunch of really neat places to sit and read.
Welcome to Holland!
I really can’t even recall our flight from Amsterdam to Entebbe. I know that we had a layover in Kigali, Rwanda, but we didn’t even deplane. I may have slept through it, but I’m not entirely sure. What I do know is that I’ve never been so happy to get off the plane as I was when we finally landed in Uganda. I hopped up and nearly sprinted off! I was EXHAUSTED, but SO EXCITED! I knew that in a few minutes (well, after filling out Immigration paperwork, clearing Immigration and Customs, and getting our luggage) I would get to see the Henderson family and Kerrie Snow. I haven’t seen them all together since the summer of 2011…too long!
Here’s me waiting in line to clear Immigration…slightly loopy! Okay, really crazy! It was around 1:00 am and I hadn’t slept more than a few hours for more than a day…
After our reunion and hour-long drive from Entebbe to Kampala, we arrived at our guest house. It was a WELCOME sight! And there is something that I absolutely LOVE about sleeping under a mosquito net…but mostly I just loved that I could lay flat and turn the lights off…
In true Ugandan style, there was a small gecko hanging out in our bathroom. He was ADORABLE and he was taking care of the mosquitoes…so we were fast friends!
