let's be social!
Saturday was a COLD, rainy day in Kampala. I have laughed at some of the Ugandans because on beautiful, 70-something degree days they will be seen wearing fur-lined winter coats like it’s the middle of an Indiana winter!
Saturday, however, I donned jeans and a fleece sweatshirt, and sat curled up under a blanket reading a book. Then Kerrie suggested that we go to this little coffee shop, La Patisserie for some cappuccino…I was all over that! We had coffee and croissants, and sat inside the warm, French coffee shop chatting and sipping.
After we left the coffee shop, we decided to swing into a gas station where we had been told that a man there sells LOTS of DVDs. We weren’t sure if people meant inside the gas station, inside the ice cream shop, or what…until we saw him walking across the parking lot carrying a HUGE stack of DVDs. I called out to him, and he quickly came to our car window. He handed us two GIANT stacks of DVDs for us to browse through, and then walked off to meet with other potential customers (yeah, he just left us with his loot and trusted that we wouldn’t drive off with ALL of those movies). There we sat, inside the car, flipping through stacks of DVDs. When we had selected our six movies, we handed him the 25,000 UGX (about $10.50 USD) and drove off. It felt more like what I imagine a drug deal feels like than movie shopping. TIA!
OH, and he had The Gods Must be Crazy (which is what we have been hunting for over the last couple of weeks, because it’s apparently a “must see” movie for missionaries)!! Score.
