We are really excited to be sharing this news with you. Both of our African homes are nearly complete!
I know a lot of you know this already, but we will have a home in both Nasir, South Sudan and Kampala, Uganda. Why two houses? Well, unsurprisingly, Nasir is a pretty rough place to live with the temperatures easily climbing above 100 degrees; the lack of regular electricity, running water, and diverse diets; and consistent ministry demands. We are BEYOND thankful that we get to live in-country among the Nuer, but we also think that our sending organization is pretty wise in structuring our time. We will spend 3 months in Nasir at a time, and then fly to Kampala for 2-4 weeks of R&R (rest and repose) time. This rotation will continue for the duration of our time in Nasir, and it will be set up this way to prevent burn out and/or depression, to restock the supplies that we cannot buy in South Sudan (think toilet paper and vegetables), and to meet with our member care team for de-briefing and support. Seriously…it’s an amazing plan.
Anyway, the house in Kampala has been secured and the Hendersons have been working on getting it set up and ready for our arrival in September. We will stay there for a few weeks in September while we scour the city, gathering supplies and getting ready for Nasir, and then our first time back in the house after our first Nasir rotation will be in December. Here’s our Kampala house…
It’s super exciting to see a REAL place where we will live and be able to begin imagining what it could look like. For those of you who know me know that I LOVE to decorate (see Camper Updates for proof), so I have already begun a Pinterest board that includes ideas of what I would like for our Nasir house to look like. Will it be perfect? Of course not! But will it be a safe haven for us? I sure hope so! Here are some of my Nasir house inspiration pictures…
