No, no one has had a baby or gotten married…but we did adopt a puppy!
Our team discussed getting a dog several times when we were still in training in Houston and we agreed that we needed a dog on our compound in Nasir to serve as a team pet, but also to serve as a guard dog. I think we all assumed that it would take some time to decide on what kind of dog to get, where we would get it, etc. However, Saturday morning (Day 2 in Uganda) Neltia saw a posting on a closed Facebook group for expats living in Kampala that a Christian couple had a litter of puppies they wanted to go to good homes for FREE! These puppies have had all of their vaccines and have been de-wormed…we needed only claim one and then show up and get it.
So, Sunday after church we drove over to the missionaries’ house and picked up our precious little puppy girl, and we named her Zazu. We got the name from the movie, The Lion King, and before we settled on the name, we searched all of the local languages to make sure that the name had a good meaning. We found that Zazu actually has no meaning in Swahili, nor a meaning in Luganda (where she’ll stay until we all go into Nasir). However, thanks to Google, we found out that Zazu means “movement” in Hebrew, which is a perfect name since we pray without ceasing for a church planting movement to take off in Nasir, South Sudan.
Zazu will travel with us (in a kennel) on our small plane into Nasir at the end of the month, and she will live there with us on our compound. She’s absolutely precious and not even remotely ferocious now, but we do hope that she brings protection to our compound and much joy to our team.
Here is a picture of our precious girl…
Glad to see you guys are doing great! Looks like your both making an awesome impact on the world and the people over there!
