As the very unofficial photographer for the EV-Africa team, I was asked to take pictures of all of the South Sudanese radio guys: as a group, by station, and individually.  In South Sudan, it is cultural to have a very serious face for photographs; I have no idea why, but it’s kind of difficult to get people to smile just for pictures (children are the exception).  The South Sudanese smile ALL OF THE TIME when there’s no camera around, but put them in front of a camera, and it’s a serious moment.

So today when photographing the radio team, I had to work around this cultural barrier.  And then when we got them to smile, this happened: so much laughter they couldn’t take the picture.

Seriously, I LOVE my job!
